There is an increase in the use of mobile phones and computer. As a result, the communication by writing letters will disappear completely. Do you agree or disagree? How do you think about the importance of writing letters?

The prevalence of high technology is believed to be a culprit of gradual disappearance of traditional way of writing. Letter writing seen as the most popular of the past is gone and replaced by machine-typing which costs less time. In my view, I think that along with the growing use of technology, hand-written letters still have their role in this modern world.

Admittedly, living in a busy world like today, hardly do people have enough time to write long letters. After assiduous days at work, it would be better for them to stick their eyes to the screen of computer, fast typing and receiving emotional icon feedback. Online-dating and -chatting are quick bridges to foster people’s relationship through days. Imagine how would it be inconvenient if you love someone and wait for months to read his letter writing? Also, in the past, possibly, no sooner had a person received a letter from his old flame overseas after months shipping than he or she decided to change his or her love already? Particularly, in wars where the matter of life and death is hard to say, instant communication proves its great importance.

Nevertheless, there are some cons if we-humans- abuse machine-like letters. To some extent, hours of waiting for someone’s letters from far away are so precious that we can reflect upon our emotions and gain deeper understanding of our lives. Love, after all, needs time, patience and real emotion to grow and bloom anyway. Besides, through hand-written letters, we can interpret our partners’ sentiment; with words of letters being written out of sync, we can truly feel how excited and emotionally shivering someone turns at that moment. I still recalled days that my grandmother broke into tears upon receiving my hand-written letters and seeing my child-like words after one year I lived far away from her. Educationally, surveys have shown that only by practicing writing letters frequently do children cultivate their creativity, imagination and other skills. While computers offer a person all means from symbols to forms of words, which hardly activates his or her creativity, hand-writing demands patience, reflection and imagination. Some of little kids who have become best-selling writers claimed that they used to be avid letter-writers in their early childhood.
