the young should respect the traditional value or live in their own way?

ĐỀ 4/2/2012
It is believed that the young should respect the traditional value while others think that they should live in their own way. Discuss

The youngsters are often supposed to be free from the constraints of old values and encouraged to lead their own way to success and life. However, opponents believe that the maintenance of the traditional value is crucial to the survival of a nation and the education of the young amidst the rapid-changing world. My essay will discuss both sides of this controversial issue.

First, it is claimed that the idea of sticking to the traditional rituals or values may have negative influence on the young’s feeling. Being constrained from their free style and imaginative thinking, the young can find their lives at the mercy of suffering rather than true enjoyment. Psychologically speaking, it is far from easy for the young to feel at ease under the rigorous rule of adults and their dogma, especially when they are reaching the age of rebellion and tend to be more affected by peer pressure. However, amidst the seas of social changes with the merging of both oriental and western ideas, can the young easily orientate their behavior and life? Occasionally, there are several youngsters being confused with the modern hedonistic lifestyle of over-indulgent western countries and diverting their lives out of their control. The higher rate of divorces and cohabitation cases are typical of harmful influence of letting the young be away from the core value about family of the tradition.

Second, the prevention of the young from their own formation of lifestyle and ideas shows the lack of democracy in general. A so-called developed society should be the one to respect the voice of the juniors who, despite being believed to be immature, are the ones to come up with other moral, novel and breakthrough notions as well. Perhaps, these ideas possibly add deeper understandings, reveal the weaknesses of the old values and provide human more reasonable answers to old riddles. With the encouragement of leading their own lives, they, too, are motivated to enrich their knowledge and given favorable condition to nurture their creativity. Nevertheless, if the young are so concerned with the traditional value for long, they will be less willing to appreciate the past and see their patriotism erode over time. Living in times of globalization where different ideas and cultures are intersecting, somehow, uncontrollably, the youngsters should be imbedded with the established quintessence of ancestors to promote their culture and be proud of it. The respect for the yesterday’s value is also a must for them to keep themselves in harmony with other senior in the society. Imagine how could the effectiveness of the work environment be maximized if the old, despite their wealth and experience, are despised by the young through their quite traditional style of working and living?

In other words, there are both pros and cons in allowing the youngsters to choose their own way of living, and hopefully, both the senior and junior can still work along with each other by appreciating their unique differences

Cause and effect of the mixture of cultures in population

ĐỀ 13/9/2012
In some countries, the population is a mix of people from different cultures and ethnic groups. Why is this case? Discuss benefits and disadvantages of this issue?

1. Reasons
- Economic integration
- Globalization in culture
- Personal need of human beings ( enjoy the differences)
2. Benefits
- Diverse culture
- Learn new things from each other
- Attract more people
3. Disadvantages
- Political conflicts
- What is the Core culture?
- Hard to build community sense
- Affect environment

Countries are hardly homogeneous. This is particularly true of the case in America and Australia where people from different cultures live here and create an exciting environment. There are causes, pros and cons of this issue.

Political conflicts in the past in some nations explain the congregation of different cultures. Living in times of wars and economic lack, people had no choice, but lived, and along with their departure was their culture brought to the new land. That is why the first and second world wars witnessed an amazing climb in immigration into America, turning this continent in a “cosmopolitan” country. Besides, as there goes a saying “variety is the spice of life”, to be on the move promises people with new things, opportunities and realization. This personal need, for centuries, urges the world to become the mixture of everything. In times of today’s globalization, with people speaking the same language, it turns easier for people from distinct poles of the world to be in a country. Despite their same language, they still enjoy their differences in cuisine, thinking, career pursuit and even aim to achieve happiness.

The diversity in population brings both benefits and drawbacks. The first advantage is the uniqueness of culture. Nowhere can you find a continent as diverse as America where converges China town, Little Italy and Orange Sai Gon. I still recalled the days of savoring Sushi in a cozy restaurant in America, then moving to China town at weekends to taste Greasy Chinese and coming back to homeland flavor with a bowl of noodle. Besides, new work opportunities are more available. When living in a homogeneous population, people only stick to certain careers, and in case, the economy goes awry, you know the answer. Meanwhile, the experience of immersing in a heterogeneous ambience salvages your life by dint of your higher sense of adaptability, multi-tasking capacity and mobility. Furthermore, as a result of seeing more opportunities in such lands, more talented come here to contribute and more revolutions are born. Nevertheless, lives in cosmopolitan environment are not all about sweetness. There are times of pressure, especially once people from different beliefs and religions are at a variance with each other. Real life stories have shown the case of how bitterly the white and black fought against each other in America, even leading to bloodshed days. Also, with the society growing more complicated, governments find it less possible to control. This probably results in illegal acts such as gambling, drinking and others. And occasionally, “too much too little”; a cake which is supposed to be shared by a staggering number of people of different minds loses its originality, and what I mean is the lack of core quintessence.

-         Homogeneous (adj) đồng nhất  > < heterogeneous (adj)
-         Cosmopolitan (n) người theo chủ nghĩa đại đồng, người đã đến nhiều nước trên thế giới
