Cause and effect of the mixture of cultures in population

ĐỀ 13/9/2012
In some countries, the population is a mix of people from different cultures and ethnic groups. Why is this case? Discuss benefits and disadvantages of this issue?

1. Reasons
- Economic integration
- Globalization in culture
- Personal need of human beings ( enjoy the differences)
2. Benefits
- Diverse culture
- Learn new things from each other
- Attract more people
3. Disadvantages
- Political conflicts
- What is the Core culture?
- Hard to build community sense
- Affect environment

Countries are hardly homogeneous. This is particularly true of the case in America and Australia where people from different cultures live here and create an exciting environment. There are causes, pros and cons of this issue.

Political conflicts in the past in some nations explain the congregation of different cultures. Living in times of wars and economic lack, people had no choice, but lived, and along with their departure was their culture brought to the new land. That is why the first and second world wars witnessed an amazing climb in immigration into America, turning this continent in a “cosmopolitan” country. Besides, as there goes a saying “variety is the spice of life”, to be on the move promises people with new things, opportunities and realization. This personal need, for centuries, urges the world to become the mixture of everything. In times of today’s globalization, with people speaking the same language, it turns easier for people from distinct poles of the world to be in a country. Despite their same language, they still enjoy their differences in cuisine, thinking, career pursuit and even aim to achieve happiness.

The diversity in population brings both benefits and drawbacks. The first advantage is the uniqueness of culture. Nowhere can you find a continent as diverse as America where converges China town, Little Italy and Orange Sai Gon. I still recalled the days of savoring Sushi in a cozy restaurant in America, then moving to China town at weekends to taste Greasy Chinese and coming back to homeland flavor with a bowl of noodle. Besides, new work opportunities are more available. When living in a homogeneous population, people only stick to certain careers, and in case, the economy goes awry, you know the answer. Meanwhile, the experience of immersing in a heterogeneous ambience salvages your life by dint of your higher sense of adaptability, multi-tasking capacity and mobility. Furthermore, as a result of seeing more opportunities in such lands, more talented come here to contribute and more revolutions are born. Nevertheless, lives in cosmopolitan environment are not all about sweetness. There are times of pressure, especially once people from different beliefs and religions are at a variance with each other. Real life stories have shown the case of how bitterly the white and black fought against each other in America, even leading to bloodshed days. Also, with the society growing more complicated, governments find it less possible to control. This probably results in illegal acts such as gambling, drinking and others. And occasionally, “too much too little”; a cake which is supposed to be shared by a staggering number of people of different minds loses its originality, and what I mean is the lack of core quintessence.

-         Homogeneous (adj) đồng nhất  > < heterogeneous (adj)
-         Cosmopolitan (n) người theo chủ nghĩa đại đồng, người đã đến nhiều nước trên thế giới
