ĐỀ 12/5/2012
Some countries use prison as common solution to problem of crime. Others think that they should provide better education. People will not become criminals. Agree or disagree?

CRIME
-         Raise people’s awareness / warnings
-         Reduce the crime rate because of being afraid and bring fairness
EDUCATION
-         Chance to correct their behavior
-         Have the right to be alive and correct
-         Provide training to have better knowledge
-         Prepare for their future life
-         Prison with four walls – no door, no light and no hope (with no hope, how could we become better) , negative environment where people have no hope and feel restricted.
-         Do community work to feel the sense of belonging

Crime happens everywhere and becomes a threat to all of us. The solution to it is believed to put criminals in prison to keep them away from others, while others claim that the more we try to do it, the worse it turns out to be. I strong believe that there should be other ways to diminish the rate of crime rather than the idea of incarcerating people.

To some, when people are away from their community, they pose less menace to others’ lives. It is thought that the exemption of criminals is likely to result in recidivism. If any person intends to commit crime, the harsh punishment and the idea of ending up being in prison will scarce them. Actually, is it true always? Living in the shadow of prisons, can people be truly repentant of their mistakes when feeling that their beloved people are hardly by their side to calm them down and listen to their fear? As there goes a saying “to err is human” , it would be reasonable that they have the chance to correct their behavior and the right to be alive. Once people see them with less bias, they feel indebted to governments for lenient treatment and endeavor their best to change their lives for the better.

Another point is that the social equity takes root by virtue of this policy. As there goes saying “an eye for an eye; a tooth for a tooth”, it would be hardly fair when family members of victims see murderers being free from crime while their beloved are gone away. Nevertheless, instead of pushing them to the verge of a life away from community, governments can encourage them to participate in social work and provide them with vocational training courses. No sooner have they engaged in work than they are less lured in doing ill and realize the meaning of life. In case that of incarceration, once they got out of prison than they come back to the normal life with sufficient skills and knowledge. In addition, that governments have to set up prisons and equip the best security systems to monitor the actions of criminals proves far from easy, economically and technically.

In brief, prison is undeniably not the only way for people to be punished; through for forgivingness and criminals’engagement in other useful activities, their sins gradually disappear.
