Should companies allow their staff to work at home?

ĐỀ 02-12-2012
The company is expanding in the world. Many companies around the world allow their staff to work at home. Do you think that this has negative or positive effects on individuals and society?

Yes
- More flexible
- Do some jobs at the same time
- Make use of cheap labor
No
- Uncontrollable
- Loss of secret information
- Not effective, no communication, isolated

People are increasingly connected through the support of Internet. Some people think that this means has positive effects on individuals and the society as a whole while others fear about the world without real interaction. In my view, this trend shows both positive and negative effects.

On one hand, once people bring their work into their home, they manage their jobs and family more effectively. This is especially true of women who are required to take care of their children while needing money to support themselves and other people. Besides, no sooner have people mastered the virtual world than they expand their knowledge ceaselessly and become intensively informed to find more jobs. One of my friends, after being allowed to work at home, does two jobs at the same time and earns a higher living.
Companies, in addition, are able to access labor from everywhere, particularly the cheap source in developing nations to maximize their economic edge. In the world of escalating amount of crazy traffic, namely in big cities, moments to work at home prove precious to long-time commuters. Honestly, millions of dollars have been wasted because of people’s suffering traffic jams. My mother, for instance, used to spend more than 2 hours going to work, and she came to the company every day, being exhausted and always finding herself in hurry to finish work before given deadlines.

Yet, there are still problems arising behind this trend. It is undeniable that as a result of being given more freedom, workers grow less disciplined. The virtual world could be useful to some, but seem distracting to any person who lacks the self-effort to concentrate on their required jobs. Surveys have shown that there are a climbing number of people playing games online while working at home, triggering their lower performance, actually. Furthermore, with workers being entitled to stay at home, companies find it hard to control secret information. Who can guarantee that these workers hardly reveal some importance news under no supervision of their strict bosses? Equally important, work places are not the zones reserved for work concentration, but the cozy ambience where people are sentimentally attached. Would the world be as inspirational as expected when most of people stick their eyes to home without concern about others and the need of face-to-face interaction?
