Live in unit family or extended family?

ĐỀ 03-08-2013
In many countries, people live in big cities live alone or live in unit family than extended family. Explain negative and positive trend.

Positive effects
- Enjoy individualism and freedom
- Easily manage economic problems

Negative effects
- Loneliness and autism
- Hardly share knowledge and skill
- Poor security

Most families in big cities prefer to lead a life of personal freedom and want to live in small units while those in the countryside often live in extended families. My essay will shed light on positive and negative influence of living in nuclear families.

On one hand, nuclear family living provides people ample opportunities of personal freedom. No longer being irritated by the herd voice of  others, people can truly discover their own potential and pursue their own dreams. Meanwhile, in extended families where members often influence each other's thinking, hardly do people know their inner voice and motivation, and hence, end up being lost and following the previous generation's step. Another benefit is economic autonomy. It would be a disadvantage of living in big families with only one bread-winner working hard all day and others just waiting for food without effort. Such hard-workers in big families are supposed to shoulder the burden and often feel overloaded, which possibly leads to their increasing stress and feeling of unfairness. As a result, domestic violence ensues, but in nuclear families, adults suffer less anxiety and are happily in charge of taking care of their own children without the duty of being the head of the herd.

Nevertheless, it is undeniable that nuclear families may result in people's growing loneliness. Imagine that after assiduous days at work, they are isolated from the community and thrown themselves in hours of watching television. Because of that, they may become passive thinkers whereas those in big families are surrounded by laughter of other members and see all their work stress melt away soon. Any pent-up feelings in a competitive work environment are released with people being by the side and trying to calm others down. Surveys have shown that those people who often live alone are more vulnerable to stress-related diseases and even autism. In addition, as a consequence of having few people around, personal security is endangered. Facts are that criminals who smell the richness of small families feel more confident in breaking into those houses. Personally speaking, if children live in extended families, they will receive more knowledge and skills from their older generation, which somehow provides them better guidance in their career choice while in small families, despite their inner voice being respected, they may find themselves on wrong journeys due to the lack of experience.

In brief, nuclear families have their own pros and cons. Depending on your interest, expectation and condition, you can choose the type of family you want, as long as you are happy with that.
