the modern world is more dependent or independent?

ĐỀ 26/8/2013
Some people think that the modern world is becoming more and more dependent on each other, but other claim that people is becoming more independent on each other. Discuss and give your own opinion

Dependent
- financial crisis affects the world
- suffer more pressure and need connection
- high rate of marriage even in developed countries
- the prevalence of contacting tools to be connected with each other

Independent
- economically independent
- avoid personal conflicts
- try to gain political and economic autonomy

Whether humans become more or less dependent in the modern world remains controversial. Some people think that as result of higher living standards, people can live more independently while others claim that the pressure of modern life forces people to be closer to each other to avoid stress. My essay will discuss both sides of the issue

There are some reasons for people to believe in growing independence of the modern world. First, it is argued that with better education, people can find jobs easily and earn enough living. Hence, they tend to live far away from their families and settle in other places to search for new opportunities. Second, as a result of wanting to avoid personal conflicts, people desire to have freedom of their own. The interference of other people from beloved members of family to neighbors can distract their work and complicate their lives. That is why the common knowledge is that neighbors in big cities often have little idea about each others' name and personal lives. At a macro-level, even nations which ever economically and politically depended on others have tried their best over the years to gain autonomy by all means like Singapore away from British control and Thailand from American domination. In other words, the sense of independence is more desirable for citizens and countries.

Nevertheless, others argue that actually people become more dependent without their acknowledgement. As a consequence of suffering the sense of overload and pressure in the modern life, a greater number of people feel tired, actually take part in more social activities and expect to regain a sense of belonging. More socializing and support clubs are established in big cities to connect people and give them solace. Furthermore, surveys have shown that despite people's longing for personal freedom, the number of marriages remains still high even in developed countries, which shows that people somehow prefer couples' life to single one. In a bigger scale, the financial crisis in America happened, followed by the collapse of other economies. This proves that countries, although being economically and political strong, still depend on each other. Technologically speaking, the prevalence of face-book and cutting edge mobile phones is evident of the fact that the need for contact never ceases and escalates amazingly in the modern world. People still rely on each other for emotional support and economic opportunities as well.

In brief, it is up to people to choose the lifestyle they want, but the truth is that we sometimes look for an escape to enjoy true freedom and at the same time want to belong somewhere to perceive our presence
